Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye
Water taxis run from Belize City to Caye Caulker and on to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye; small planes also fly to both. On the islands you get around on foot, by bike or by golf cart.
- Water taxi: save the schedule and your ticket, and check the last boat back if you go for a day.
- Golf carts on Ambergris: an offline map of San Pedro helps when the sandy roads all look alike.
- Tours: snorkel and dive shops often confirm by WhatsApp or email. Data keeps you reachable away from the guesthouse Wi‑Fi.
- Weather: check the forecast and any boat cancellations in the morning, before you head to the dock.
Reef trips and the jungle
Day trips to the barrier reef, the atolls and the Great Blue Hole take you far from shore. Inland, the Cayo District around San Ignacio is the base for Xunantunich, cave tubing and the ATM cave tour, with lodges spread out in the forest.

Arriving from Guatemala or Mexico
Many travellers reach Belize overland: from Flores and Tikal in Guatemala via the western border near San Ignacio, or from Chetumal in Mexico by bus or boat. A country plan for either neighbour does not cover Belize.
