Which plan covers Marrakech?
A Morocco plan. Marrakech, Casablanca, the coast and the Atlas Mountains are all in Morocco, and one plan works across the country, so you can extend a trip without buying again. The networks it uses, and whether 5G is on, come live from our catalogue below.
- Networks for MoroccoOrange Morocco
- SpeedUp to 5G on this network. Where there is no 5G, you connect over 4G/LTE.
The new town and the main roads are well covered. Inside the medina, narrow lanes and thick walls can weaken the signal, and in the mountains outside the city it can drop for long stretches.
Coverage around Marrakech
Where your phone stays online, and where to prepare:
- Gueliz and Hivernage: the new town with cafés, shops and hotels. Signal is strong, so maps, bookings and messages work easily.
- The medina and the souks: covered, but the signal can dip inside some riads and deep in the alleys. Ask your host to send the exact location on WhatsApp before you arrive.
- Jemaa el-Fnaa square: busiest in the evening, when crowds can slow data. Download your map and tickets earlier in the day.
- Atlas Mountains day trips: signal in the villages is fine, often none on the hiking trails. Save the tour details and your driver’s number first.
Pin your riad on an offline map before you leave it. The lanes look alike, and a saved pin gets you back.
Arriving at Menara Airport
Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) is a short taxi ride from the medina. Your eSIM is ready before the plane lands, so arrival takes four steps.
- Switch it on after landing
After landing, leave airplane mode, enable data roaming for the eSIM line and choose it for mobile data. Calls stay on your home SIM.
- Open your map app
Search for your riad. A downloaded map also works without a signal.
- Agree the way into town
Taxis and transfers wait outside arrivals. Ask your riad to arrange a pick-up, or agree the fare before you get in. Your map shows the route.
How much data for Marrakech
Maps, messages and translation use little. Photos, video and calls add up. For a long weekend or a week, see how much data you need, then pick a size below.
| What the phone does | |
|---|---|
| Getting around | An offline map and WhatsApp with your riad and driver: a small amount each day |
| Souks and sights | Photos and short videos: upload on Wi‑Fi to save data |
| Day trips | Tour details, a map and messages to your driver |
| Evenings | Restaurant search, translation and messages home |

Good to know in Marrakech
- WhatsApp is how riads, drivers and tour operators stay in touch. See the Morocco eSIM guide for networks and roaming.
- Data only: the eSIM has no Moroccan phone number. Some apps ask for a local number at sign-up, so create the accounts you need at home.
- Keep your own SIM for calls and bank codes. See Dual SIM on iPhone.
Going on from Marrakech
The same plan works in Casablanca, Essaouira, Agadir, Fes and the Atlas Mountains, see the Morocco eSIM guide. Flying on to Spain or Portugal? A Morocco plan stays in Morocco, so look at the Europe and Morocco eSIM guide.
Questions and answers
Do I need a separate eSIM for Marrakech?
No. Marrakech is in Morocco, so a Morocco eSIM covers it, along with Casablanca, Essaouira, Fes and the Atlas Mountains.
Does the eSIM work inside the medina?
In most of it, yes. Narrow lanes and thick walls can weaken the signal in some riads and alleys, so save your map and your riad’s address offline.
Can I install the eSIM before I land at Menara Airport?
Yes, and it is the better order. Install at home on Wi‑Fi, then turn the line on once you have landed. Most plans start counting at the first local connection.
Is the signal good on trips to the Atlas Mountains?
In towns and villages it usually is. On hiking trails and high passes it can drop, so download maps and save the tour details before you leave.
Do I get a Moroccan phone number with the eSIM?
No. The plan is data only. Your own SIM keeps your number for calls and texts.
