Which plan fits a short Korea trip?
A South Korea plan. One plan covers Seoul, Busan, Jeju and the rest of the country, so nothing is bought per city. For a short trip the only real question is size. Networks and 5G come live from our catalogue below.
- Networks for South KoreaLG Uplus and SKTelecom
- SpeedUp to 5G on both networks. Where there is no 5G, you connect over 4G/LTE.
- Internet runs viaSingaporeDepending on the plan. Banking or streaming apps may treat you as being there.
Coverage is dense in the cities, on the high-speed train and in most subway stations. Mountain trails and quiet coast can weaken the signal.
3, 4, 5 or 7 days: how much data
A simple rule from our data guide: light use needs about 0.3 GB a day, typical use about 0.7 GB and heavy use 1.5 GB or more. Here it is per trip length.
| Light | Typical | Heavy | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days (2 nights) | about 1 GB | about 2 GB | about 5 GB |
| 4 days (3 nights) | about 1 GB | about 3 GB | about 6 GB |
| 5 days (4 nights) | about 2 GB | about 4 GB | about 8 GB |
| 7 days (6 nights) | about 2 GB | about 5 GB | about 10 GB |
Rounded values at 0.3, 0.7 and 1.5 GB a day. Your own use may differ.
“Light” means maps, messages and a few photos. “Typical” adds daily social media and photo uploads. “Heavy” means video calls, streaming or sharing the connection with a laptop.
How to choose your plan
- Match the days, not the country. Pick a plan whose validity lasts at least as long as your trip, including the day you land and the day you leave.
- Short and light: 3 or 4 days of maps and messages is a small plan.
- Short and heavy: video and hotspot use data fast. A day plan, which gives a fixed amount every day, can fit better than one small bundle.
- Between two sizes: take the larger one. Running out in Seoul on day 3 costs more than a few extra GB.
Prefer a daily allowance? 1 GB per day · 7 days for €9.49: full speed up to 1 GB a day, then 512 Kbps until the next day.

Switching on at Incheon or Gimpo
Incheon (ICN) and Gimpo (GMP) both link to Seoul by train or subway. The eSIM is ready before the plane touches down, so arrival takes four steps.
- Switch it on after landing
Turn airplane mode off, switch on data roaming for the eSIM line and set it as the line for mobile data. Your home SIM keeps the calls.
- Open your map app
Search for your hotel in Naver Map or KakaoMap. Both show subway, bus and train routes with live times.
- Order a ride if you need one
Kakao T shows the route and the fare before you book, so you do not have to explain the address.
Good to know on a short trip
- Use Naver Map or KakaoMap. Google Maps has only limited directions in Korea. See the South Korea eSIM guide.
- Data only: the eSIM has no phone number. Some Korean apps ask for a local number at sign-up, so create the accounts you need at home or pay by card.
- Keep your own SIM for calls and bank codes. See Dual SIM on iPhone.
Staying longer, or adding cities?
The same plan works in Busan and on Jeju: see the Busan guide and the Seoul guide. Combining Korea with Japan? A South Korea plan stays in Korea, so look at the East Asia eSIM guide.
Questions and answers
How much data do I need for 3 days in Korea?
About 2 GB for typical use: maps, messages, social media and a few photos. Light use manages with about 1 GB, heavy use can reach 5 GB.
Which plan fits 4 or 5 days?
For typical use, about 3 GB covers 4 days and about 4 GB covers 5 days. Choose a plan that lasts at least as long as the trip, and go one size up if you watch a lot of video.
Should I take a day plan or a fixed amount for a few days?
A fixed amount suits quiet and busy days alike, because what you do not use today is still there tomorrow. A day plan suits steady, heavy use.
When should I install the eSIM for a short trip?
At home, a day or two before you fly. Then switch the line on as soon as you land, with no time lost at the airport.
Do I get a Korean phone number with the eSIM?
No. The plan is data only. Your own SIM keeps your number for calls and texts.
